The Bard -- (from the Garth Brooks song, "Cowboy Bill")

by: Lorenthia Lorenthia@aol.com

She told a good story and all of us listened
Bout her life spent with Xena and the way it was then
And she held an audience and when she would finish
We'd ask the young bard to tell them again

You could almost see Xena fighting her ways
Her saddle a creaking 'neath her old faded leather
You could hear that famous battlecry from an entrance she'd make
As she sat there and she scrolled those great Xena tales

And the teachers would tell us
You bards keep your distance, Gabrielle's just telling you lies
But to all us bards, Gabrielle was a story-teller
Just as true as her green Amazon eyes

She told of a time when she rode with her best friend
Down by the ocean and Xena saved the day
Outnumbered by plenty, there were almost too many
With thirty warlords headed their way

Xena looked back just in time to see her bard stumble
Gabrielle went down and Xena pulled up on Argo's reins
And through a flurry of arrows, she rescued her bard
They rode for a sunset, just the story remains

And the teachers would tell us
You bards keep your distance, Gabrielle's just telling you lies
But to all us bards, Gabrielle was a story-teller
Just as true as her green Amazon eyes

Well I still remember the day that it happened
Xena waited and she waited, but Gabrielle never showed
And the folks in the village said they hadn't seen her
So Xena left to search for her down an old dusty road

And she cried when she found her lying there with her stories
Her purse wide open, scrolls scattered about
She was clutching a scroll that said, "Xena, I love you."
And a knife in her chest that killed the young bard

And those teachers that told us
You bards keep your distance, Gabrielle's just telling you lies
Well now, they're all saying that Gabrielle was a story-teller
Just as true as her green Amazon eyes
Just as true as her green Amazon eyes
