EDITOR'S SCRAWL:

I wanted to thank everyone for their get well
greetings. It sure made me feel a lot better. Thanks. I
will be in San Diego for Thanksgiving weekend and will
meet with some Xena fans there so although I will not
be back on-line until December 1st, I will still get a
Xena fix.

I am mega-behind in everything. So please be patient
for replies, processing, and the other stuff I usually
do.

WHAT I NEED FROM YOU: If you are an IAXS person and you
can get me an article before Dec. 2nd, please do. I do
not have the wherewithal to make my normal pleas and
cajolings this time. We need articles. We need lots of
articles. If I can be sitting on 6 or 7 articles by
Dec. 2nd, that means I can use my energy to edit and
not to solicit. I would feel better and WHOOSH #4 would
not cause undue stress to the WHOOSH Staff. Thanks.

With my strength returning and some free days ahead of
me I can feel that XMR #19 might be ready by the
beginning of December. I am trying to pack it with as
much fun stuff as possible. I am still aiming to cover
May 1 - 15, 1996. That will most likely mean an issue
the size of the monster XMR #17.

I was going to list the Denver Post 11/22 article in
this TWXN, but it is sooooo significant, that it will
have to be in #48. It'll be too large to fit in this
one.

THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Saturday. Page 1C. 1292
words. "ET' and its ilk: A new day fawns" By Ed Bark
COMMENTARY: Mr. Bark offered a review of TV tabloids
in the wake of George Clooney's boycott of
ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT. His conclusion what that things
really hadn't changed much. But in his conclusion, he
did mention XWP: "You'll find more journalism on an
episode of Xena: Warrior Princess..."

THE TORONTO STAR. Sunday. Page E1. 926 words. "TV
women come on strong New shows mean amazing array of
Amazonian roles" by Antonia Zerbisias
COMMENTARY: In Mr. Zerbisias' review of the recent
crop of strong women in the 1996-97 TV season, he
wrote, "Combine these new stars with the powerhouses
introduced over the past year or so - Lucy Lawless as
Xena: Warrior Princess, Sonja Smits on Traders,
Christine Lahti on Chicago Hope, Gillian Anderson of
The X-Files, Roseanne, Brett Butler (Grace Under Fire)
and the smoldering Gloria Reuben on E.R., the first
primetime series regular to be grappling with the AIDS
virus - and it's a vintage season for women."

THE SUNDAY STAR-TIMES (Auckland). Page 8. 271 words.
"Couple's roofing shakeup" By Jane Wynyard
COMMENTARY: In an article about Heartlands
Environmental Buildings, which specializes in making
European-style wooden roofing, it was noted that, "Even
the makers of the television series Hercules and Xena:
The Warrior Princess have purchased pallets of
'seconds' to use on film sets."

DAILY VARIETY. Monday. 499 words. "New Positions and
Promotions in the Industry"
COMMENTARY: There is life after XWP: "Seiniger
Advertising has tapped Michael Zucker senior VP,
television. He joins from MCA TV, where his ad
campaigns included work for "Hercules: The Legendary
Journeys" and "Xena: Warrior Princess.""

LOS ANGELES TIMES. Tuesday. Page F-1. 1258 words.
"Is the Bloom off 'Roseanne'?. Television: the Sitcom
Has Been Getting a Mixed Reception to its Lottery Plot
this Year. But the Star of the Show Says She's Happy
with Her Ninth Season." By Greg Braxton.
COMMENTARY: TV commentators appear to be very
fascinated with Roseanne and her apparent failures or
successes. This article is a re-hash of a grand debate
which first appeared 10/29/96. The anti-Roseanne force
was represented by THE TORONTO STAR and the pro-forces
were represented by THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, THE
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, AND THE DAYTON DAILY NEWS.
All of these articles cited the Xena Warrior
Princess parody as either evidence of her failure or as
of her genius. Mr. Braxton offered a neutral look and
interviewed all parties to present an interesting
examination at how a show such as Roseanne deals with a
major concept change in its last year.
   EXCERPT:
...Others said the show, which has regularly
featured offbeat guest casting, has become top-heavy
with cameos by Tammy Faye Messner, Marlo Thomas, Moon
Unit Zappa and the stars of "Absolutely Fabulous." And
they suggested that Roseanne has become self-indulgent
with fantasy sequences in which she imagines she's
Jeannie from "I Dream of Jeannie" or the title
characters from "Xena: The Warrior Princess" and "The
Mary Tyler Moore Show."...
